Adobe Illustrator file viewer

An .ai file is famous for opening in the wrong way. Modern Illustrator puts the drawing in a PDF container but keeps the artwork itself in a private stream — and when the "Create PDF Compatible File" box was unticked on save, every other program shows Adobe's housekeeping notice asking you to re-save, instead of the picture. The owner concludes the file is broken. This tool reads the private data directly, so it shows the artwork where others show a refusal. Illustrator 8 and older files are pure PostScript, and the same code handles them: the language inside both generations is the same one.

1
Load the file

Drop an .ai or .eps. Any age will do — yesterday's file from Illustrator 2025 and one saved in the nineties alike.

2
Look at the artwork

Beside it: the artboard size, how many shapes and layers there are, which fonts the file asks for, and the Illustrator version it was made in.

3
Take the vector

SVG keeps the curves and opens in any browser, editor or layout program. PNG is there for when a picture is all you need.

Open an .ai without Illustrator and take the artwork as SVG
