How to make a 3D face

Shape the face

Open the Shape tab and drag the sliders, or press “Random face” to generate a new head instantly.

Set the expression

Switch to the Expression tab to adjust the eyes, mouth and tongue.

Use the Pose tab to turn, nod and tilt the head, and drag the preview to orbit the view.

Press “Download PNG” to save a 1080×1080 image of your 3D face.

A one-time ~9 MB 3D head model loads on the first run and is cached afterwards. Rendering runs in your browser via WebGL. The model is derived from Google’s open-source GNM (Apache-2.0); the faces are synthetic, not real people.

FAQ

Is this a real person?

No. The face is a synthetic 3D head generated by a statistical model (Google’s GNM). It is not a photo or scan of any real person.

What is GNM?

GNM (Generative aNthropometric Model) is Google’s open-source parametric human head model, released under the Apache-2.0 licence. This tool runs a compact, truncated version of its head model directly in your browser.

How does the shape morphing work?

The model stores a neutral “template” head plus a set of shape and expression directions. Each slider adds one direction to the mesh, and the result is rendered with WebGL — the same maths GNM uses, ported to JavaScript.

Why is the first load a little slow?

The first time you open the tool it downloads a one-time ~9 MB 3D head model. Your browser caches it, so later visits start quickly.

Can I use the images I make?

The underlying model is Apache-2.0 licensed and the faces are synthetic (not real people). You are responsible for how you use the exported images.
