What is a hypotrochoid?

A hypotrochoid is the curve traced by a pen fixed inside a small gear that rolls around the inside of a larger ring. The classic plastic Spirograph toy draws exactly these curves.

How do the gear presets work?

Each preset is a ring and gear tooth-count pair, just like a real Spirograph set. The petal count is the ring teeth divided by the greatest common divisor with the gear teeth.

What is the difference between PNG and SVG export?

PNG saves a pixel image at the size you choose. SVG saves the curve as vector paths, so it stays perfectly sharp at any size and can be edited in vector software.

Can I share a design?

Yes. The Share button copies a link that encodes your whole composition — every layer, colour and gear setting — so anyone who opens it sees the exact same design.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The spirograph runs entirely in your browser with nothing to install, so it keeps working without a connection once the page has loaded.
