Secure Wipe of Free Space on USB Drives and SD Cards

An online tool that deletes the files you pick and then fills the free space of a USB flash drive, SD card or external disk with random data until it is full, so files removed earlier cannot be brought back with recovery software. Works in desktop Chrome and Edge; on phones nothing is read or written.

How to wipe the free space of a USB drive

1
Connect the drive

Plug in the USB flash drive, SD card or external disk. Empty the recycle bin if the files were deleted from Windows.

2
Choose the drive or a folder on it

Click "Choose the drive or folder" and allow editing when the browser asks.

3
Tick the files to delete

Optional: files you tick are deleted before the overwrite. Leave everything unticked to scrub only the free space.

4
Start and wait for "full"

The tool writes random data until the drive is full, pauses so the drive can finish writing, removes the filler and shows the report.

Overwrite the free space of a drive so the files deleted from it cannot be recovered

Why free space and not the files themselves

A browser cannot overwrite a file in place: the File System Access API always writes a new copy and swaps it in, leaving the old bytes on the drive. So this tool does what desktop utilities do — it fills the free space until the drive is full, which overwrites every cluster a deleted file could have occupied.

On flash memory the controller may keep copies in reserve blocks that no software can reach. For certified destruction use the maker's secure-erase tool or full-disk encryption.
