Video Insert — Put One Video Inside Another

A tool for putting one video inside another. Your video is cut at the second you choose and the other clip takes that place, so the result gets longer. The second way is an overlay: the clip sits over the frame as picture-in-picture and the length does not change. The insert can be trimmed down to the part you need, given a transition at the seam, and the main audio underneath it can be ducked.

How to insert a video into a video

Load the main video

Drop the file on the upload zone or pick it. A frame strip with the audio waveform appears under the player.

Put the playhead where the insert goes

Click the frame strip at the second you want. The marker can be dragged afterwards.

Add the clip and set it up

“Splice in” cuts the video; “On top” lays the clip over it as picture-in-picture. In the card on the right, trim the insert and choose the transition and volume.

Build the file

Check the edit with the play button, choose format and resolution, then press “Build the video”.

Why try this one

Splicing into the middle of a video is a rare thing to find as its own tool — normally you open a full editor with a timeline and tracks just for that. Here the same result takes three steps, and the file is built by the browser’s own hardware codec, so nothing has to be installed. Insert proportions are preserved, the audio under an overlay is ducked, and the finished file comes out with no watermark in any of four containers, up to 4K.

Frequently asked questions

How much longer does the result get?

Exactly the length of the spliced inserts plus the pauses around them, minus the transition overlap: a one-second crossfade eats one second at the seam. Overlays laid on top do not change the length at all. The current total is shown on the ruler under the frame strip and on the build button, and it is recalculated while you drag the marker.

I need a piece from the middle of the clip, but the whole file goes in

Open the insert’s card and drag the strip edges under “What to take from the clip” — only the highlighted part goes in. The bounds can also be typed as numbers, in the 0:12.5 form. The source file itself is never changed.

I am putting a vertical clip into a horizontal video — what happens to the frame?

Nothing gets stretched. The card offers a choice: “Whole” keeps black bars at the edges, “Fill” crops the overflow, and “Blurred pad” covers the bars with a blurred copy of the frame, which is what editors usually do. The same applies to an overlay: the clip keeps its proportions whatever shape the main video has.

The voice from my overlay clip is drowned by the main soundtrack

The overlay card has a “Duck the main track” slider. It lowers the main audio only while the clip plays and ramps it back afterwards — by 60% by default. Separately you can turn the clip’s own volume down or up, as far as 200%.

I added a second insert and the first one seems to have moved

It has not. An insert’s position is measured against the ORIGINAL video, not against the future result — otherwise every new splice would shift all the earlier ones. So the markers on the frame strip stay where you put them, and the moment the clip appears in the finished file shifts on its own.

Can I insert a photo, or hold a frame?

Yes, both live in the “⋯” menu next to the add buttons. A photo goes in as a frame with the length you choose; a freeze frame takes the current frame of the video itself and holds it as long as you need. The same menu has a black card, usually used with a crossfade to separate parts of a story.
