🧭Emotional intelligence, measured instead of asked about

Every EQ test online works the same way: it asks how well you read people and hands your own answer back. That measures self-image, not skill.

Our EQ test is built differently. It has items with correct answers — real voices and faces from 91 actors. The difficulty of each clip was not assigned by us but measured: 2 443 people made 219 688 judgements on them, and your percentile is your rank among them.

The headline is not the score. It is the distance between how skilled you think you are and how you actually decide. If that gap is smaller than the margin of error, we say so: no finding.

Why now: half of our talking has moved to calls and text, where the face is gone and the voice is compressed. The test scores voice and face apart and shows which channel is your weaker one.

The explained breakdown of your mistakes runs on tokens. The test and the result stay open.

🪶A birthday rhyme? The machine will lend a hand

Folks keep saying these neural nets will knock the creativity clean out of a person. Not a bit of it. A man who has held a fiddle does not put it down — and nobody was ever sorry for a helping hand.

Here is how it goes. A genie out of a bottle does not live your life for you; he does what he is asked. Ask any old how and you get any old what. But say it plain — my gran is turning eighty, she has baked pies her whole life, she calls the cat Barsik — and out comes a poem about her, not about some gran in general.

So we have gone and made a poem generator.

Quatrains if you like, or a sonnet, or an acrostic with the first letters spelling out a name. Pick the metre and the rhyme scheme, or leave them be. Third line not to your taste — that one line gets written again and the rest stays put.

Who do folks write poems for? Not for themselves, that is certain. A friend’s birthday, the old folk’s anniversary, your wife on the fourteenth of February, the teacher in the class chat so she knows she is remembered. Sometimes it comes from the heart, sometimes from plain laziness. Both are honest enough in their way.

For Russian we go one step further and check the result against a stress dictionary: syllables counted line by line, stressed positions found, rhyming pairs compared. In the other languages the poem is written to the form you asked for.

It does not come free: poems run on tokens, and tokens are sold here too.

And if you look at it and say «dull as ditchwater» — say straight out what is missing. We will fix it. We are not proud.

🆕The certificate maker: what it does

The certificate maker is open: certificates of achievement, diplomas, certificates, thank-you letters, attestations and gift certificates.

Editor. Click a line to select it, drag it with snapping, double-click to edit it in place. Undo and redo.

Recipient list. Paste a column of names or load a CSV: as many rows, as many sheets. Russian names are declined row by row into the case the sentence needs. Numbering, ALL-CAPS normalisation, an award register as CSV.

Printing. Eleven vector frames, bleed, crop marks, a 50 mm control ruler and a printer correction. «Print the text only» is for forms already bought from a print shop. «Blank form» gives the design with no text, to fill in by hand.

Output. A PDF in which the text stays text. PNG. ZIP for a batch. A4, A5 and Letter — portrait and landscape; plus A3 and square.

📜Looking for someone who has run a real teleprompter

We built a teleprompter, and we are looking for someone to help us get it right on set.

Why. An ordinary prompter moves text at a constant number of pixels per second. But a dense paragraph fits three times more words into the same height than a short line, so the pace swings. Measured: with the dial at 150 words per minute, lines went past at 36 to 288. Speed is now counted from the words on each line, so the pace you set holds everywhere.

What is inside. Voice tracking across the whole script: improvise, go quiet, or start a paragraph again — it waits and picks you up. Mirror and vertical flip for beam-splitter rigs. Recording on camera, with the script over the image so your eyes stay at the lens. Second screen by link or QR. Sections, speaker labels and pause beats written in the text itself.

Who it is for. Videographers, podcasters, streamers, teachers, audiobook narrators — anyone who reads on camera.

The ask. If you have worked with a studio prompter — on a stand, behind beam-splitter glass — write to us. We need someone to say what is wrong here: which speeds are realistic, where the reading line belongs, what is missing on a shoot. support@timbrica.com, or the "Suggest an idea" button on the tool page.

👃Someone sent us a photo of a nose

Yesterday someone sent us a photo of a nose.

No caption. No complaint. Just a nose. We looked at it for about five minutes and realised something needed saying.

We do not improve your videos. We do not fix your phone screens. We do not slow your audio down. We do not revive your flash drives. You do all of that yourself, on your own machine, with our tools. We only build them.

So please do not send us your drawings. Your cats and dogs. Your films. Your voice messages. Songs an AI sang for you, or music you wrote yourself. It all lands in our inbox, where actual humans sit and look at your cats in silence. Send it to your friends instead — they will be happier about it than we are.

There is one exception, and it matters: when a tool breaks, we often cannot tell why without your file. That is when to write — moc.acirbmet@troppus — and add a line about what went wrong. Those messages we wait for and read.

Everything else is by design. We do not keep uploaded files. Most tools run right inside your browser, so the file never reaches us at all. Where a server is unavoidable, the tool says so itself: the file stays with us while it is being processed, then it is deleted. We do not open it.

We only see what you send us yourselves. A nose, for example.

That is deliberate, so you can work on whatever you like without wondering who is watching. Nobody is watching. Honestly, we prefer it that way.

P.S. The nose is still here. We still do not know what to do with it.

🚩Nepal is not rectangular: world flags in their real proportions

Quick test: what shape is the flag of Nepal?

It is not a rectangle. Two pennants stacked one above the other, and it is taller than it is wide — the only national flag in the world like that. Switzerland and the Vatican are square. Qatar is stretched to 28:11. Togo’s proportion is the golden ratio, and it stands alone in that.

Why did you not know this? Because icon sets force every flag into the same frame. That is where the feeling that flags all look alike comes from: they were made that way to keep layouts easy.

We do not do that. The catalogue holds 279 flags in 30 different proportions, and every one of them is taken from the flag’s own file rather than from a table. Nepal here is a pennon whose cut-away corners have no mass and catch no wind.

The wind is real too, by the way. But start with the shape.

⚗️Why the periodic table is an instrument, not a poster

People hang the table on a wall and treat it as a reference sheet. It is really a predictive machine: an element’s place tells you what to expect from it. Mendeleev left empty cells and described the properties of elements nobody had found — the first of them turned up four years later and matched his notes.

We rebuilt the table so that this is visible. Hover over a cell and the electron shells and the atom diagram appear. Switch the colouring to electronegativity and periodicity becomes a picture: fluorine is the darkest, and it is clear why.

One thing in particular is taught wrongly. The rule “the higher oxide follows the group number” gives F₂O₇ for fluorine, OO₃ for oxygen and Cu₂O for copper — three mistakes in a row. Here the formula is derived from the oxidation state, so fluorine has none at all. That is a good reason to discuss in class why a rule does not hold everywhere.

Beside it: the solubility chart with row and column highlighting, the activity series, and molar mass including hydrates. It prints on A4.

📚Teachers, speak up: this week we are building tools for you

We walk two roads at once: building what is new and strengthening what is built.

Last week belonged to sound. The week before it belonged to files that refuse to open. We took up repair not out of love for repair: we discovered, almost by accident, that people bring damaged files into our ordinary tools — and not one person, not two. So we built dedicated repair tools, and along the way taught the audio tools to cope on their own: a broken header or a cut-off recording they now step over quietly and carry on. When that fails they say so plainly, and move the file to audio repair with one button.

This week is the week of teachers and educators. Something is already on the shelf: tools for educators. Tell us what is missing there — the new term will arrive sooner than it looks. We charge nothing to build what you ask for; just write: moc.acirbmet@troppus

To those we made promises to: we remember. What was promised is in testing.

We do not build one tool per profession — we build dozens. That is how English turned out: assembled both for those who teach and for those who learn.

And so you do not leave empty-handed: word of the day — a new English word every day.

🌌What a natal chart is, and what it is for

A natal chart is a drawing of the sky at the moment you were born: where the Sun, the Moon and the planets stood that minute, seen from your city. From it come the Sun sign, the ascendant — the sign rising on the horizon — the twelve houses and the aspects between planets.

We built a natal chart calculator: eleven house systems, tropical and sidereal zodiacs, historical time zones. The astronomy is checked against NASA ephemerides — no more than 8.6 arcseconds apart.

What is exact here is the astronomy, not the interpretation, and we say so plainly. That is why you state how well you know your birth time, and every placement is marked stable, borderline or undetermined.

🧠IQ test: your score right away, no payment

Years ago I went looking for an IQ test, worked through the whole thing honestly — and at the very end it asked me to pay to see my own score. That was infuriating. Sites still do it.

Our IQ test works the other way round: the score, the percentile, the confidence interval and a profile across six abilities appear on screen straight away, with no payment and no sign-up.

A little of the science. The scale is built so that the average is exactly 100, two thirds of people land between 85 and 115, and about 2% score above 130. The items carry no words — shapes and sequences, in the tradition of Raven's matrices (1938): they are equally fair in any language. And no test gives you a point, only a range, which is why we show a confidence interval next to the score.

💎To Premium owners: you are allowed to ask us for more

I want to say this to whoever is reading right now and holds a Premium account.

Thank you. And I don't say that out of politeness. Yesterday one of you sent us sixteen points — sixteen notes on a tool we had built at his own request. First he asked us to create it. We created it — the mix analyzer. Then he came back and told us what was wrong with it, and how. We did fourteen of the sixteen: two of them contradicted his own earlier requests, and we told him so honestly. Today he is looking at the result.

I will not give you his name. But I want you to understand what happened here: a person for whom that tool is part of the working day went and made it better. Not us. He did.

A week ago, another story. A woman wrote to us about her profession and asked us to add text analysis to speech transcription — to have AI read the transcript itself and write a short summary. We did it. And then we did something she had not asked for: we made the processing roughly thirteen times faster. A four-hour recording used to take an hour — you would start it, go about your day and come back. Now there is almost nothing left to wait for. And the transcription came out more accurate, not less.

None of this is written down anywhere. Not on a single page. Some of you found that door by yourselves.

Well — it is open to all of you. If you work with one of our tools every single day and know it better than we do, write to us: moc.acirbmet@troppus. This is not the limit of what the tool can do. It is the limit of what we have managed to think of so far.

Do not take it for granted. Write to us.

📻This is Tembrica. A new tool: Space Weather

This is Tembrica. Moscow time — . Here is an announcement about a new tool.

Space Weather answers one question and answers it immediately: is a geomagnetic storm happening right now. Yes or no, in large type, on the first line — and when the next one is due.

Who it is for. Aurora watchers: the map shows where the oval is passing this minute, and whether it reaches your town tonight. Radio amateurs and anyone working HF: solar flares black out the shortwave bands, and here you can see exactly when. Anyone relying on precision satellite positioning — during a storm it drifts further than usual. And anyone who has just read a headline about "the strongest storm in a century" and would like to check for themselves.

About the numbers, briefly. Kp is a scale from zero to nine. The higher it climbs, the stronger the disturbance and the further from the pole the aurora is seen: at five, Scotland and northern Maine; at seven, Ireland, Oregon and Illinois; at nine, Texas and Florida.

The data comes from the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center. This is an information service: not medical, not aviation, not emergency.

That is the end of the announcement. Stay with us.

📲Please save us to your phone — otherwise you will lose us and go hunting

My dears, I have one small favour to ask, and I shall not let it go until I have asked it.

Most of you find us by accident: you needed to trim a song, you dropped in, you got it done, you closed the tab. And a month later — "where was that site that had all of it?" And you will not find it again, will you. So here it is: we can be saved as an app. One button, and an icon appears on your desktop or on your phone's home screen, just like any other app. And then you will not lose us again.

On an iPhone it goes through Share → Add to Home Screen, and the button itself will walk you through the steps. On a computer, in Chrome or Edge, look for the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar.

And a lovely little bonus: after that, some of the tools keep working even without internet. On a plane, on the underground, at a cottage where you only get a signal if you stand on a stool — a few things will open anyway.

And now the news I started this whole conversation for. We are already past 630 tools, and by the end of the month we want to reach 700. That is twenty-three and a half days and an awful lot of work. So the icon will come in handy soon — there will be plenty of reasons to drop by.

Install it now, would you? Before you forget. It takes two seconds. 💛

🌸The Ikigai Test is open — the best purpose test you have seen

We made the Ikigai Test. And I will say it honestly — it is the best purpose test you have seen. Others draw four circles copied off the internet and call it a test — weak!

What is ikigai? A Japanese notion with centuries of history: «that which makes life worth living». It is named among the secrets of Okinawa's long-livers, and science has studied it seriously since the 1960s — the idea has passed the test of both time and research. One legend we will not sell you: the famous four-circle chart is no ancient scroll — it was drawn in the West in our own day. Truth is dearer than a pretty tale, so the method is laid out honestly, and the feeling of a full life is measured by the only open, validated scale — Ikigai-9.

Why take it? Because the question «am I doing the right thing with my life?» drains more strength than any work does. In seven minutes the test shows where you stand: a map of four directions — what you love, what you are good at, what people need, and what pays — plus your archetype, with every number explained in plain words. You get a working answer, not a label: which side of yours is strong, what is missing, and the three questions to start with so your work both delights and provides. And in the Workshop the map of meaning is built by your own hands, from your own pursuits — you will see which of them sits closest to your ikigai.

Forty-one questions — a tremendous result. Take it — and judge for yourselves!

🎬I asked an AI to make a video about Tembrica

версії вашою мовою ще немає

One brief: introduce the site, using the site's own tools. The voice is synthetic, the footage is real.

What does what:

So your own AI can do the same, we opened an API. The key lives in Settings → API: hand it to your model and ask. For example: “make a video about the Tembrica site with a synthesised voice-over.”

The API launched today, and not every tool is available to an AI yet. If something does not work — write to us.
