Animal Vision Simulator: See as a Dog, Cat or Bird

Dogs and cats are dichromats: they have two cone types instead of three, so they see the world in blues and yellows and cannot tell red from green. A red toy on green grass looks like a dull yellow object on a slightly different yellow — which is exactly what this tool reproduces.

The colour transform uses the Machado-Oliveira and Brettel-Viénot-Mollon models in LMS cone space, the standard methods in vision science, tuned to each animal's measured cone peaks. Sharpness comes from each species' behavioural acuity in cycles per degree. It is a faithful educational model, not a claim about an animal's inner experience.

Not literally. Bees, birds and reindeer see ultraviolet light, but screens emit none and cameras don't record it, so true UV cannot be reconstructed from an ordinary photo. The "UV" view is an illustrative approximation and is labelled as such.

Eagles have human-like (and richer) colour vision, so their main advantage is extreme sharpness, which a screen can't exceed. Cats are dichromats with low acuity, so their view changes a lot in both colour and blur. The tool reflects each animal's real strengths.
