Online Voice Recorder — Record MP3 & WAV in Browser

Yes! Switch to "System Audio" mode and select a browser tab or screen to capture its audio. This works without a microphone — perfect for recording podcasts, music, or video calls. This feature is available in Chrome and Edge on desktop computers. It is not supported on iPhones, iPads, or in Safari and Firefox.

Choose “System Audio,” press record, pick the program's window or the entire screen in the share window, then turn on the sound switch at the bottom: for windows and screens it starts off, and without it the recording comes out silent. This works on a computer in Chromium-based browsers — Chrome, Edge, Opera; on a Mac, from macOS 14.2. If you need the sound of a video file you've already downloaded, there's no need to play and record it: the Extract Audio from Video tool takes the whole track straight from the file without waiting for the video to play through.

Yes, recording continues even when the tab is minimized or you switch to another app. The audio is captured until you manually stop it. A wake lock prevents the device from sleeping during recording.

Yes! Each recording appears as a card with its own waveform, playback controls, and download button. You can create as many recordings as you like, rename them, and download individually as WAV or MP3 — or grab everything at once as a ZIP archive.

There is no fixed limit, because the recording is held in your device's memory as it grows — two or three hours is comfortable on most machines, and a phone with little free memory will give out earlier. Two habits make long recordings safe. Save in parts rather than trusting one four-hour take: an interrupted tab loses what has not been saved, and nothing recovers it. And leave the screen wake lock on, which is what stops the device sleeping mid-recording; without it a phone that dims its screen may cut the capture. If a session really has to run for hours, a dedicated recorder or a desktop application is the more robust tool.

WAV if the recording is going to be edited, transcribed or archived; MP3 if it is going to be listened to and sent. WAV keeps every sample, which matters because each round of MP3 encoding throws away a little more — a file that has been trimmed, re-exported and re-sent three times audibly degrades, while a WAV does not change at all. The cost is size: a WAV is roughly ten times the MP3. If you do pick MP3, 192 kbps is the sensible default for speech and 320 for anything musical; 128 saves little and is the first place you hear the encoder working.
