Lorem Ipsum & placeholder text generator

Online placeholder-text generator (Lorem Ipsum, fish text, filler text) that runs in your browser. The Coherent-text mode returns readable, meaningful prose on a chosen theme (business, nature, science, travel…) instead of a plain word salad; the classic random-word lorem stays a separate option. Choose how much you need — paragraphs, sentences, an exact number of words, an exact number of characters, bytes, or list items — in any of 10 languages. Output as plain text, HTML or Markdown, with a live character, word and sentence count and one-click copy or download.

Typical uses

  • Fill a Figma or wireframe layout to test typography rhythm before the real copy lands.
  • Hit an exact meta-description or title length while drafting an SEO page.
  • Stress-test a CSS layout with long paragraphs to find overflow bugs.
  • Seed a database with realistic-feeling placeholder posts, names and emails.
  • Produce HTML- or Markdown-ready blocks to paste straight into a CMS draft.

Why this one

Most generators only do Latin paragraphs and merely count what they produced. This one hits an exact character or word budget on purpose (for a meta description, a tweet, a UI cap), writes readable filler in ten languages including a proper Russian “рыба”, and exports HTML, Markdown or plain text. It runs in your browser with no signup — nothing extra is injected into your output.

Common questions

Can it produce meaningful text, not a word salad?

Yes. Set “Text type” to “Coherent text” — the generator assembles readable prose from real sentences on a chosen theme (general, business, technology, nature, science, travel, food, history). All themes are available for Russian and English; German, Spanish, French and Portuguese offer the general theme. The classic random-word lorem stays a separate option.

Can it hit an exact character count?

Yes. Switch the unit to “Characters (exact)” and enter a number — the generator lands on exactly that many characters, only ever splitting the final word, which is how a length-capped field behaves in practice. “Words (exact)” works the same way for a precise word count, and the exact budget also applies in coherent mode.

What is “fish text” / “рыба”?

“Fish text” (Russian “рыба”) is placeholder copy in a real language — Russian, English and others — used instead of Latin when Latin characters look out of place, e.g. when presenting a layout to a Russian-speaking client.

Where does Lorem Ipsum come from?

It is scrambled Latin derived from Cicero's “De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (45 BC), section 1.10.32. The opening “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit” has been used by typographers as placeholder text since the 1500s.

Why use nonsense instead of real words?

Real, meaningful copy distracts reviewers — they read the content instead of judging the layout. Recombined filler looks word-like but carries no message, so the eye treats it as texture.

Can I get HTML or Markdown directly?

Yes. Set the format to HTML for <p>, <h2> and <ul> markup (with a live preview and a source view), or Markdown for “##” headings and “-” lists. Download keeps the right extension.

Does the same input always give the same output?

No — each generate shuffles. If you need a reproducible filler, generate once and save the file.
