Text shortener that keeps the meaning

Nothing can guarantee that: every cut is a decision about what matters more. Here the decision is shown and ranked by cost. What costs nothing goes first: “due to the fact that” instead of “because”, “very” before an adjective. Then hedges, then remarks in brackets, and only at the end whole claims — the ones furthest from the topic first. All of it stays visible, and if something you need went, one click brings it back. A shortener that only returns the result hides this decision — and the mistake surfaces after the text has been sent.

Switch the goal to “sent.” and type 3 — or pick “3 key sentences” among the limits. The three sentences most closely tied to the topic of the whole text stay, in the order the author wrote them; a paraphrase of something already chosen is skipped. With this goal the words inside the kept sentences are not touched. If you disagree with the choice, click a struck-out sentence to bring it back and click another one to remove it.

160 only when the whole message uses GSM-7 characters: Latin letters, digits and basic punctuation. A single Cyrillic letter, an emoji, an em dash “—” or curly quotes switch it to UCS-2, and the limit drops to 70 characters, with long messages split into parts of 67. The “SMS” limit here detects the alphabet of your text, shows the number of parts and shortens it to one message.

Selection works with whole sentences, and a summary cannot be shorter than one sentence. If the shortest remaining sentence is longer than the goal, a separate line says so. Remove a sentence with a click, raise the limit, re-enable blocked steps or set the goal in sentences. Another way is step 6, “Retell with AI”: a retelling compresses inside sentences too, and the tool then trims it to the exact number.

Yes. The “File” button opens .docx, .pdf and .txt — the text appears at once, and lines broken by PDF line wrapping are joined back into sentences. A photo of a page is recognized right in the browser: the first time, it loads a text recognition model once. The text is then shortened to the selected goal straight away.

A neural network writes it anew: the result is connected and short, but the words are no longer yours, and the facts need checking. Shortening keeps the text yours: words are only removed or swapped for short synonyms, and every change is named and can be undone — for an abstract, a post or a product description, that is usually what you need. When choosing sentences is not enough — say, a story has to shrink to a fifth without losing its ending — there is step 6, “Retell with AI”: the model retells the text under your goal, and the tool trims the retelling to the exact number and marks it. An X post is 280 characters, an X bio 160. A Telegram post is 4096, a photo caption 1024. An Instagram bio is 150, a caption 2200. A Google Ads headline is 30 characters and a description 90. A meta description gets cut at around 155 characters and a page title at around 60. Every limit is set with one click, together with its unit and counting rules.
