Menopause age: the usual range, early menopause and what to check

This tool answers two questions: whether your case falls inside the usual age of menopause (45 to 55, per the ESHRE guideline) and whether it is early menopause or premature ovarian insufficiency. Together those affect roughly one woman in six. There is no predicted date here: for an individual, that cannot be predicted.

How to check

1
Give your age and your cycle status

These two answers are required. The four-month threshold of cycle disturbance and the age of 40 are the very boundaries that decide whether assessment is needed.

2
Add surgery and hormones

Removal of the ovaries is a diagnosis by itself, while hormonal products lower FSH and make the test uninformative — the order of steps depends on both.

3
See where your case falls

The bar is drawn to the ESHRE shares: 3.7% for ovarian insufficiency, 12.2% for early menopause.

4
Take the list of steps to your doctor

See whether your case falls inside the usual range, and whether anything important has been missed

Age is the key input here: it decides whether this is ordinary menopause, early menopause, or ovarian insufficiency.
What are your periods doing now Answer for how things actually are, even if it looks "wrong".
Any surgery on the ovaries or uterus
Are you taking hormones This is not a technicality: hormonal products lower FSH and can hide the picture, so the answer changes the order of testing.
Tick anything that is true for you These circumstances do not predict a date, but they change what is worth discussing with a doctor.
If you already have an FSH result

The tool reads the result against the ESHRE criteria: two values above 25 IU/L at least four weeks apart, plus menstrual disturbance for at least four months. One result is not the criterion.

Needed only if the first is above the threshold
Method: what exactly is computed

Every rule with its own source, so the tool can be checked against the guideline line by line instead of taken on trust.
