Semitones, ratios and what they do

Each semitone multiplies the frequency by 2^(1/12) ≈ 1.0595, so twelve of them double it — one octave. The last column shows what would happen to the length if pitch and tempo moved together, the way a tape player changes both at once.

Here they do not have to move together: pitch and tempo are separate controls, so a track can change key at its original speed, or slow down without dropping in key. Range is ±24 semitones in steps of 0.1.
