Audio Watermark — Inaudible Copyright Signature
A free tool that hides ownership text — your name, channel URL, an order number, a client ID — inside any audio file using an ultrasonic spread-spectrum signal. The signature is inaudible on normal playback, survives MP3 re-encoding at 128 kbps and above, and can later be read back here to prove the file came from you. Useful for podcasters sending unreleased episodes to producers, beatmakers sending tagged demos to clients, voice-actors sending audition tracks, and anyone shipping audio to a third party before payment clears.
How to Use
Open the Embed tab and select an MP3, WAV, OGG, or FLAC file from your device.
Type your name, website URL, or any identifier you want to embed as proof of ownership.
Select Light for delicate recordings, Normal for everyday use, or Strong for files that will undergo heavy compression.
Click Embed Watermark. Optionally check "Also embed in file metadata" for dual protection.
Save the watermarked file, then use the Detect tab to confirm the signature was embedded correctly.

How do you actually protect a track?
An honest breakdown, no promises. There is no universal button that keeps music safe from theft once and for all. This tool's watermark is only one layer that helps you prove your authorship — not a lock against thieves. Here is how tracks really get taken, and what genuinely makes theft harder.
How a track gets taken — and how a mark gets dodged
Someone who wants to claim or re-upload your music usually does one of these — and almost any of them can weaken or bypass a fragile hidden watermark:
- Re-recording and re-mixing — the track is played back and captured again, or run through processing; a faint high-frequency mark falls apart in the process.
- Extracting the acapella or instrumental — stem-separation tools pull out the vocal or the backing and rebuild the track from the clean parts.
- Pitch and tempo shifts — pitch and speed are nudged by a few percent: barely audible, but a frequency-anchored mark drifts off.
- Re-encoding — squashing to low-bitrate MP3 or AAC cuts the top of the spectrum, exactly where the mark usually lives.
- Trimming and editing — only a fragment is used, sections are reordered, or other audio is mixed on top.
What this tool's watermark is genuinely good for
It has one honest use — proving authorship of your own file. You embedded the mark yourself and can read it back here later: that is evidence you held this version of the recording. The use is limited — it is a point in your favour in a dispute, not something that stops theft on its own. Platform Content ID matches the acoustic fingerprint of the recording itself, not hidden marks, so it does not react to this watermark.
What actually protects music — honestly ranked
- Register authorship with a date — Register with a collective-rights society or the copyright office in your country, or use a copyright-deposit service. A timestamped deposit also works — even emailing the file to yourself or a notarised deposit. This establishes priority: you hold a version with an earlier date.
- Distribute through an aggregator that enrolls fingerprinting — Release the track through a distributor that registers the recording with systems like YouTube Content ID and audio fingerprinting. Platforms match on the acoustic fingerprint of the recording itself, not a hidden mark — this is what actually catches re-uploads.
- Metadata and an ISRC code — Through a distributor the track gets a unique ISRC code and author / rights-holder metadata, which platforms and play-count systems read.
- An audible producer tag — A short voice-drop or sound logo laid over the track deters casual reuse of a demo. The downside — it is audible in the music itself, like a jingle, so it is usually left only on demo versions.
- Keep your project files and master — Keep the project files, the multitrack session, and a lossless master with dated exports. Holding source files that a thief does not have is strong evidence of authorship.
The honest bottom line: there is no universal, invisible, absolute protection. A hidden watermark is one weak layer for proving your own authorship, not a lock. For real protection, combine legal rights registration with fingerprint-based distribution, and add the watermark and metadata as supporting evidence.
