About register and choosing a form

Normative register — dictionary norm («учительница», «актриса», «продавщица»). Fits official-business style.

Colloquial register — widely used in speech and media but outside official documents («директриса», «докторша», «кассирша»).

Bookish / archaic register — literary or historical flavor («поэтесса», «адвокатесса»). Suitable for literary text.

Neologism — new forms from the 2010s, not yet entered into academic dictionaries («авторка», «директорка», «психологиня»). Stylistically marked.
