Live airplane tracker

Yes. It uses open, community-run ADS-B networks (adsb.lol, adsb.fi and airplanes.live) that publish live aircraft positions, so there is no subscription and no account needed. You can track planes and search flights as much as you like.

Type the flight number or radio callsign into the search box — for example BA492, LH401 or SU100 — and press Find. The tool converts the airline code (BA → BAW, LH → DLH, SU → AFL) to the radio callsign, locates that aircraft if it is in the air, flies the map to it and follows it along its route.

The map only shows aircraft that are airborne and being received right now. A flight that has not departed yet, has already landed, or is flying over an ocean or a region with few ground receivers may not be visible. Scheduled departure and arrival times come from paid airline data, which this free tool does not use.

Positions refresh every few seconds, and between updates each plane is moved forward along its heading at its real speed so the motion looks smooth. Positions can lag the real aircraft by a few seconds to a minute and depend on nearby ADS-B receivers, so coverage is excellent over Europe and North America and thinner over some other regions and the open ocean.

Each plane is coloured by altitude — warm colours are low, cool colours are high — and grey means it is on the ground. The info panel shows altitude in feet and metres, ground speed in knots and km/h, the compass heading, and the vertical rate (whether the plane is climbing or descending and how fast).

Yes. The map is touch-friendly with pinch-to-zoom and a fullscreen button, and the aircraft layer is drawn on a canvas that stays smooth with hundreds of planes on screen. It works in any modern mobile browser without installing an app.
