Every edit goes into the browser’s own database as you write — reload, close the tab or lose power, and the note is still there.

Why this notepad

Most browser notepads keep a single sheet of text and forget it as soon as site data is cleared. This one keeps a whole list of notes in the browser’s own database, asks the browser to mark them persistent so routine cleanups skip them, and notices when you have the same notepad open in two tabs instead of letting one quietly overwrite the other. On top of that: a password lock done in the page, five export formats, find and replace, dictation, and — in Chrome and Edge — editing a real file on your disk. Sign in with Premium and the same notes follow you to every device, with a version history to roll back to.

Questions people actually ask

I cleared my browsing data and the notes are gone. Can they come back?

Not from here — clearing site data removes the browser database the notes live in, and there is no copy left behind. Two things prevent a repeat: the ⋯ menu has “Back up every note”, which downloads one .json you can restore later, and a Premium account keeps a copy on the account, so a cleared browser just pulls them again on the next sign-in.

Can I open a .txt from my computer and save my edits back into it?

Yes, in Chrome, Edge and Opera on a desktop. “Open a file from this device” in the ⋯ menu links the note to the real file; after that Ctrl+S writes your changes into that same file, and the note shows a 💾 mark in the list. Firefox and Safari do not offer this yet — there the menu hides those items and “Download as” stays the way to get the text out.

What happens if I open the notepad in two tabs at once?

They stay in step. Both tabs read and write one shared database and announce each change to the other, so a note you edit in one appears in the other within a moment. If the same note is open in both, the newer edit wins and the other tab says so instead of silently replacing what you were typing.

I forgot the password on a locked note — can you unlock it?

No, and no one else can either. The note body is encrypted with a key derived from your password, and the password is not kept anywhere — not in the note, not in the backup file, not on the account. Without it the ciphertext stays ciphertext.

Does the word counter handle Chinese, Japanese, Korean or Thai?

Yes. Counting splits text the way each language actually divides words rather than by spaces, so a Chinese sentence is not reported as one word. The same applies to hyphenated and apostrophed words in European languages.

Why does my note show ** around the words instead of bold text?

The note is in Plain text mode, where the page shows exactly the characters you typed. Switch it to Formatted with the toggle above the editor and those markers turn into bold, headings, links and tickable checklists, with the preview beside the text.
