Passport and document photo maker

The corner is a white triangle in a bottom corner of the print, left blank so the issuing office can stamp its seal across photo and page at once without the seal landing on the face. It is asked for on student IDs, medical books, military IDs, office passes and service cards, mostly in Russia and neighboring countries. There is no single standard for its size: photo studios usually cut about 10 mm on a side, but an individual office may ask for something else — which is why the size is adjustable here and either side can be chosen. Passports, visas and other biometric documents never carry one, so the control does not appear for them.

That depends both on the rules a tool can check and on the ones only a person can judge. It checks geometry — and geometry is what most rejections are about: head height, the margin above the crown, the eye line and the tilt are fitted to the chosen standard automatically, and the compliance check reports anything outside tolerance before you print. What it cannot judge is whether you smiled, whether your glasses caught a reflection, whether hair crosses the face, or whether a white shirt merges into a white background.

The photo is first looked at whole, then in parts and at rotations. That is not decoration: a detector resizes any frame to its own input, so what decides detection is the fraction of the frame the face occupies, not the megapixels — "upload a bigger photo" does not help at all. If that still finds nothing, click the face in the photo and the search runs around your point. The usual causes are several people in the frame, a profile view, a shadow across the face, and photos where the head is under a tenth of the width.

Yes, two ways. "Plain" finds the wall as a region — including the shadow falling on it — and fills it with an even color; it is instant and never touches the face. "AI cut-out" separates the person from the background completely, hair included, and removes the color fringe around the hairline; the model downloads once and runs in your browser. For documents where digital editing is forbidden — the US passport, Canada, Russian passports, India — the neural-network mode is switched off; "Plain" remains, but whether replacing a background suits such a photo is your call.

A shadow on the background is one of the commonest reasons a document photo is refused, and the cheapest place to fix it is before the shot: take a good step or two away from the wall and the shadow falls out of frame. If the photo already exists, "Plain" in the Background block finds the wall together with the shadow on it and fills it with an even color. The compliance check reads the whole visible background rather than the two top corners, so the "Even background" row tells you whether anything uneven is left. A shadow ON your face is a different matter: the "Face evenly lit" row reports it, and only re-shooting with the light in front of you fixes it.

Type your own sizes: the list of standards is a convenience, not a limit. Any document-photo rule comes down to four numbers — the width and height of the print, the head height inside it, and the margin above the crown. Take them from the official page of wherever you are applying, choose "Custom size" in the document list and enter them; the fit works exactly as it does for the built-in documents.
