Race Timer Online: Lanes and Mass Starts

In direction. A lap stopwatch times ONE runner across many splits. Here it is the other way round: one start and many finishes, a button for every lane, and in a mass start one button for everyone. Timing a race of eight with an ordinary stopwatch takes two people: one presses, the other writes.

Because runners start on the sound. The signal is scheduled on the sound card clock and leaves the speaker noticeably later than the press: first the countdown, then the output delay, which on a Bluetooth speaker reaches several tenths of a second. Every result would carry that extra time. Here the zero is the moment the signal leaves the speaker, and if the phone is far from the start, the time sound takes to travel is added too — about three milliseconds per meter.

Press Undo mark or Backspace: the last mark is removed and the rest stay. Any finish can be removed with the cross in the results, and a participant can be marked DQ. There is no need to reset the whole race. The tiles are not rebuilt on every touch either, so a second finger on the next lane keeps its finish.

Switch to Mass start. The official presses one big Finish button (or Enter, or a Bluetooth clicker) for everyone who crosses the line, and the tool records only the time and the order. Who each runner was goes into the row later, once the rush is over: that way nobody gets lost in a close finish. If you paste the list in advance, names are offered as suggestions.

The hand-timing rules require it: a finish pressed by hand is no more precise than a tenth, so times are rounded up to 0.1 s, and hundredths in the results would be false precision. If you judge the finish from a photo finish or video, switch rounding to 0.01 s. The clock on the screen always runs in hundredths.

From the thresholds you entered yourself under Results and grades. There is deliberately no built-in table of standards: they differ by country, level, age and sex. Thresholds are saved together with the heat, so you can time the boys against one set and the girls against another, and every grade stays as it was given.

Marks are saved with every touch. After a reload the tool offers to resume the race, with the clock running from the same start, or to end it with whatever was marked. Saved heats are kept until the end of the day.
