Frequently asked questions

How does the blank-page sweep decide a page is blank?

It reads the text layer and marks any page holding fewer than four characters. That catches scanner separator sheets and the empty backs of double-sided originals. It will not catch a page that is one large image with no text — a full-page photo has no characters either — so glance at the marks before you save.

I marked the wrong page. Can I get it back?

Yes, until you download. Marks are toggles: a marked page grays out but stays on screen, and the counter above shows how many pages stay and how many leave. Click it again and it comes back. Nothing is written until you press the download button.

Will the table of contents still work afterwards?

Entries that pointed at removed pages leave with them; everything else is re-anchored to the surviving pages, so the outline keeps jumping to the right chapters. If the document is going out as a flat handout, switch the option off and ship it without an outline.

Do the remaining pages get renumbered?

The PDF's own labels travel with the pages, so a page that read 90 still reads 90, and a roman-numeral preface stays roman. Numbers printed onto the page are ink and never change — to renumber visibly, run the page numbering tool afterwards.

How is this different from extracting?

It is the same operation from the other side: here you mark what leaves, in extract you mark what stays. Pick whichever list is shorter to type — dropping four advert pages is quicker here, keeping one chapter is quicker there.
