Frequently Asked Questions

Does the video get re-encoded?

No — only the audio track is re-encoded. The video stream is copied with FFmpeg stream-copy (-c:v copy), so you get zero quality loss on the video and the output file stays roughly the same size, processed 10–100× faster than a full re-render.

Which file formats are supported?

MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI and M4V work out of the box. Exotic containers can usually be converted first with our Convert tool.

Is there a size limit?

No hard cap. Large files are mounted through a lazy filesystem (WORKERFS) and streamed on demand, so your device RAM stays free. Multi-gigabyte 4K videos process comfortably on a modern laptop.

Can I hear changes before exporting?

Yes. The entire EQ + bass/treble + compressor + volume chain runs live through the Web Audio API, so every slider move is audible instantly. A/B toggle compares original and edited in one click.

Does it keep the video in sync?

Always. Pitch shift uses a phase-vocoder engine that preserves duration, the compressor and EQ do not change timing, and stream-copy keeps every frame exactly where it was. Lip-sync is never affected.

Can I save my presets?

Yes — settings are auto-saved in your browser. Close the tab, come back tomorrow, and your last EQ curve and effect toggles are still there.

Can I pull the audio out of a video without losing quality?

Yes. In the "Extract audio" block choose "No re-encode" — the track is lifted out of the container exactly as it is, bit for bit, with no compression step at all. The extension is chosen to match the source codec: AAC goes to M4A, Opus to OPUS, FLAC to FLAC. Processing is deliberately not applied in this mode, because it is a copy of the original. If you want the audio after the equalizer and noise reduction, pick any other format.

Why can I not choose some codecs when exporting?

Not every kind of audio fits in every container. WebM accepts only Opus and Vorbis by specification, and MOV rejects Opus and FLAC — FFmpeg simply refuses those pairs. Some combinations are worse than a refusal: MP3 inside MP4 does get written, but it is tagged as "AAC here", so other players cannot open it. Impossible pairs are therefore greyed out in advance, and if a container change invalidates your codec, the tool switches to a working one and tells you.
