Why is my video so much quieter than others on YouTube?

YouTube only turns loud uploads down to about −14 LUFS — it never boosts quiet uploads up. So a quiet video stays quiet next to louder competitors. Normalize to −14 LUFS before uploading and it will match.

What is LUFS and which target should I use?

LUFS (Loudness Units Full Scale) measures perceived loudness — the same scale platforms use. Use YouTube/Spotify −14, Podcast −16, TV/Broadcast (EBU R128) −23, or Audiobook −18. The tool computes the exact gain to hit your target.

Will boosting the volume make it sound distorted or “crunchy”?

Not with the true-peak limiter on (the default). A naive boost pushes peaks past 0 dBFS and hard-clips into harsh distortion; the limiter catches those peaks at −1 dBTP so loud audio stays clean.

Does changing the volume reduce video quality?

No. The video stream is copied bit-for-bit — never re-encoded — in both whole-video and per-segment modes. Only the audio track is processed, so resolution, bitrate and frames are identical to the source.

Can I set different volumes for different parts?

Yes. Switch to “By segments”, split the video at any point, and drag each region up or down. Ready-made shapes like “Duck middle” and “Fade-in intro” set common patterns instantly.

My video has no sound — can this add audio?

If the video has no audio track, there is nothing to make louder, and the tool tells you so instead of returning an identical file. To add or replace a soundtrack, use a dedicated audio-replace tool.
