Why increase video FPS
Higher FPS makes motion look visually smoother — especially important for slow-motion (e.g. 120 FPS slowed 4× yields a smooth 30 FPS playback), gameplay capture, action-cam footage and any fast-motion scene. Interpolation computes intermediate frames between existing ones — Motion-Compensated via FFmpeg analyzes motion vectors, while AI RIFE uses a neural network for semantically correct in-between frames.

Motion-compensated or the AI mode — which should I use?
Motion compensation is the everyday choice: it works out where things moved between two frames and draws the in-between, which is enough for a pan, a walk or a slow zoom and finishes far sooner. The AI mode runs RIFE, a neural network trained on real motion, and it is worth the extra time when the movement is fast or complicated — hands, water, a crowd — where the simpler method smears rather than invents.
Why does targeting 240 FPS take so much longer than 60?
Because the work is the frames that do not exist yet. Going from 30 to 60 means inventing one frame for every one you have; going to 240 means inventing seven. The source is decoded once either way, but the interpolation runs seven times as often and the encoder has seven times as many frames to write. If the result only needs to look smooth, 60 or 120 gets most of the way there for a fraction of the wait.
Quality or AI — which is better?
AI (RIFE) gives smoother and more semantically correct motion on complex scenes, but requires a 25 MB model download and a device with WebGPU or WASM SIMD support. Quality (FFmpeg) runs on any device.
Will the video be perfectly smooth?
On simple scenes — yes. On fast or complex motion, both modes can produce artifacts — try the AI mode for the best result.
Does the duration double?
No. Duration stays the same — only the number of frames per second increases. Audio stays in sync.
Can I make slow-motion?
Yes. Boost FPS to 120 or 240, then use the video speed tool to slow down — you get smooth slow-motion playback.
