Every control is reachable and operable from the keyboard, each carries a label your screen reader will announce, and changes of state — loading finished, page turned, playback started — are announced rather than shown. Nothing here requires pointing at a place on the page. The part worth planning for is the document itself rather than the tool: a PDF that is a scan of paper contains pictures of words and no text, so a reader has nothing to read until the text layer is recovered. If a file goes silent, that is usually why, and running it through text recognition first is the fix.

It is switched off in the reading plan, and the panel says how much it costs — on the four papers this was tested against, the bibliography was between eleven and thirty-six percent of the total listening time, and it is read as a run of surnames and initials. No. The reader groups the text into lines with their positions, finds the gutter between the columns, and only reorders the text when the file's own order actually crosses it — a check that matters because most PDFs made by LaTeX and Word already store the text column by column, and re-sorting a correct order is what breaks it. Words split at a line end are joined back before anything is spoken: on the test corpus that was 526 words, one every fifty-one seconds of listening.
