Frequently asked questions

How does it help me aim the camera if I can’t see?

While the camera is on, a tone plays: the better the text fills the frame, the higher and steadier it gets. When the frame is caught and stable, the photo is taken automatically and a voice says “Captured”. So you can photograph text without seeing the screen.

Which languages are recognized?

Over 20: English, Russian, Ukrainian, German, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Arabic, Hindi, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian and more. In auto mode the language is detected from the script.

Why is recognition sometimes inaccurate?

Accuracy depends on lighting, focus, font and angle. The tool auto-straightens, removes shadows and fixes rotation, but for best results shoot in good light, hold the camera steady and closer to the text. Handwriting is recognized poorly.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. The camera works in Safari on iOS and in Android browsers. Flashlight and zoom are available where the device supports them (usually Android). Read-aloud uses the voices built into your system.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only for the first load of the engine. After that, recognition and read-aloud run in your browser without a connection (language data and voices are cached).
