Eye Contact Correction for Video

An online tool for eye contact correction in video: if you were reading a script or watching the screen below the camera while recording, your eyes in the video will look straight into the lens. The gaze correction accounts for head tilt, moves the lids and the highlight together with the iris, and leaves blinks and deliberate glances aside untouched, so the eye contact looks natural.

How to fix eye contact in a video

Upload the video

The tool finds the face and the eyes in every frame and shows where you look throughout the recording.

Watch and fine-tune

Press play, compare with the original, and if needed adjust the strength, the natural movement, or calibrate on a frame.

Download the video

The finished MP4 with the original audio is saved to your device.

Look into the lens even while you read your script

Works best on a talking head: face large, eyes open

Features

The whole video at once, not frame by frame

First the tool looks at every frame and learns where you look most of the time, then it corrects. That is why there is no jitter or lag like in call filters.

Lids and highlight move with the eye

When the iris goes up, the upper lid rises with it, and the highlight in the eye shifts half as far, as on a real eye. The eye never opens wider than your usual — no staring look.

Natural eye movement stays

Only the steady offset is corrected. Small eye movements can stay in full or be calmed down, and blinks and deliberate glances aside are not touched at all.

Tuned to your eyes

Find a frame where you look right into the lens and press «I look at the camera here» — the correction calibrates to it. Or nudge the aim by hand.

You see what changed

A graph shows where you were looking and where you look after the correction, and the «Original» button or holding the frame compares with the source at any moment.

Audio and size stay as they were

The audio track is carried over unchanged, resolution and frame rate are kept, and the result is an MP4.

When it helps

A video message you read from the screen or a teleprompter
A lesson, webinar or presentation recorded on a webcam
A social media video shot on a phone with the text next to the lens
A call recording where you looked at the other person instead of the camera
A video résumé or self-introduction
A first-person message to clients or your team

Why a gaze just below the camera is so noticeable

The camera sits above or next to the screen, while we look at the text or at the other person — so the viewer sees a gaze slightly below them. The difference is only 10–15 degrees, yet people read it instantly: that is how someone looks when reading, not when talking to you. The correction brings eye contact back without memorizing the script or reshooting the video.

Frequently asked questions

How does the tool know where the eyes should look?

In every frame it finds the eye corners, the lids and the iris, and from the face shape — the head tilt. Together they give the gaze direction relative to the lens. The offset that holds over time is corrected (for example, looking at a script below the camera), while quick eye movements stay as much as you leave them with the «Natural eye movement» slider.

Why is the gaze only partly corrected in some places?

When the eyes are lowered a lot, the upper lid almost covers the iris, and honestly drawing an open eye where none is visible is not possible. In such frames the correction eases off smoothly, and those places are marked on the graph. The best way to avoid it next time is to place the text as close to the lens as you can.

What happens when I blink or look aside on purpose?

Blinks and nearly closed eyes are not touched, and the correction fades in and out smoothly — the transition hides inside the blink itself. A glance aside beyond the set threshold («Leave glances aside beyond») also stays as in the original: if you paused to think and looked out of the window, that is how it should look.

It looks like I am looking slightly above or below the lens. What can I do?

Find a moment in the video where you look straight into the camera and press «I look at the camera here» — the correction will calibrate to your eyes. If there is no such moment, move the «Aim» sliders up–down and left–right; the result shows right away.

Does it work with glasses?

Usually yes: eyes behind clear lenses are found just the same. It is harder when a bright reflection of a lamp or screen covers the eye, or when the frame runs right along the edge of the lid — in such frames the correction may be weaker.

Which videos work best?

Talking-head footage: the face is large in the frame, the eyes are open and well lit. If several people are in the frame, the main (largest) face is corrected. A face that is too small is skipped, and the tool says so.

What happens to the audio and the video quality?

The audio is carried over unchanged. The video is rebuilt frame by frame as an MP4 with the same resolution and frame rate; only the eye areas change, the rest of the picture stays as it was.
