What the tool does

One-tap selection

Tap the object and its silhouette is worked out from how it differs from the still scene, then followed through the whole clip. No manual keyframing.

Background from real frames

When the object moves, the background behind it is visible in neighbouring frames — that is where the fill comes from. Measured on a locked-off shot: 40 dB against a scenario ceiling of 40 dB, indistinguishable from the original.

An honest estimate before you wait

Before rendering you see what share of the area will come from real frames and what share must be drawn in. If there is nothing to recover, you learn that immediately rather than afterwards.

Pans and moving cameras

Camera motion is measured from the background with the object's own path excluded, so frames line up correctly on a pan and the object cannot skew the estimate.

A box when automation should not guess

On a difficult scene the tool does not hand over a mask it cannot stand behind — it asks you to draw a box, then follows that box itself.

Questions and answers

How is this different from blurring the object?

A blur leaves a patch where the object was, and the patch is visible. Here the background itself is rebuilt: when an object moves across a still scene, what was behind it is visible in neighbouring frames, and those real pixels are what get used.

Do I have to place keyframes by hand?

No. One tap starts the tracking and the keyframes come out of it — including the object's change in size as it moves toward or away from the camera.

Why does it sometimes report a low recoverable share?

Because there genuinely is no real background behind the object. That happens in two cases: the object never moves during the clip, or it moves together with the camera and keeps covering the same spot. The background then has to be drawn in, and it may differ from what was actually there.

Does it work on footage from a moving camera?

Yes, when the camera uncovers the background behind the object. Camera motion is measured separately, frames are aligned, and the background is gathered from them. If the object travels in step with the camera there is nothing to recover — and the estimate will say so.

How long a video can it handle?

The limit is your device's memory rather than a fixed duration: the higher the resolution and the longer the clip, the more frames are held at once. On a phone it is wiser to process a section than a whole recording.

Can I remove several objects at once?

One object per pass for now. To remove a second one, run the result through the tool again.
