What the tool does

Select with a single tap

A neural network finds the outline of the object under your finger on any frame, including handheld footage. Missed a part or grabbed too much? Tap the frame in Add or Exclude mode.

Tracked through the whole clip

The outline follows the object frame by frame, size changes included. The strip under the video shows where the object was found and where tracking lost it.

Several objects in one pass

Mark several objects — passersby, a car, a sign (up to five at once with Premium) — and the video is assembled once, without re-encoding it again and losing sharpness.

Background from real frames

When the object moves, the spot behind it is visible in nearby frames, and the background is taken from there with camera motion corrected. Where no frame ever shows it, it is filled in.

Compare before you save

Right after you select, a before-and-after slider appears on the frame, rendered by the same engine that assembles the video, together with the share of background taken from real frames.

The file saves itself

The finished MP4 or WebM goes to your downloads without an extra click — with sound, at the resolution you pick; the original up to 4K with Premium.

Questions and answers

Can I get rid of the whole backdrop and make the background gray?

Yes. Turn on the “Replace the background” step: people in the shot stay, and everything behind them turns gray, white, black, green for chroma keying, any color you pick, or simply blurred. You do not need to mark any objects for this; if you mark an extra person or object, it is removed in the same pass. You can check the result with the slider before saving. The background can be replaced in clips up to 10 s, and up to 60 s with Premium.

The person is gone, but their shadow on the pavement stayed. How do I remove it too?

A shadow is a separate area of the frame, and the neural network does not treat it as part of the person. Choose Add and tap the shadow on the same frame: most of the time it joins the outline and is tracked with it. If the shadow is not picked up, draw a box around it in New mode — it becomes a second object, and both are removed in one pass.

Why does the share of background “from nearby frames” show 0%?

Because the background never shows behind the object: it stays in place for the whole recording, or it moves together with the camera and keeps covering the same spot. Then the background is filled in entirely. Drag the slider on the frame: on grass, sky, water and asphalt it usually does not show, on lettering and patterns it does. You can check the result before saving, and it does not count against your limit.

The object leaves the frame and comes back. How do I remove it everywhere?

Tracking stops where the object disappears, and the strip under the video shows how far it was found. Scrub to where it appears again and tap it — it becomes a second object with its own bar on the strip, and both stretches are removed in one pass.

How do I remove several passersby at once?

Tap them one by one: each gets its own color on the frame and its own bar on the strip, and the video is assembled once. If a selection grabbed a neighbor, choose Exclude and tap the extra part. An object you no longer need is removed from the list with the cross.

Will this work for a logo or caption that stays in one place?

It can be removed, but no frame ever shows the background under a fixed caption, so it will be filled in. For text, subtitles and watermarks the neighboring “Remove text from video” tool is a better fit: it looks for clean background between appearances of the text and can find the text by itself.

Why does a long clip take a while to process?

Every frame is analyzed and redrawn where the object was, so the time grows with the length and resolution of the clip and depends on how powerful the device is. Finished frames appear right on the video, with the time left shown next to it. If the object is only in part of the clip, trim the video to that stretch first — the result is the same, and the wait is shorter.
