How to Set Up Browser Video Surveillance

Pick a mode: live camera or analyze a recording

Use a device as a live camera — open the tool and click "Set up Camera", allowing camera and microphone access — or switch to analyze mode to upload an existing video instead.

Configure settings

Choose resolution, set motion detection sensitivity, optionally enter an email for alerts, and enable recording with your preferred segment interval.

Go live

Click "Go Live" to start streaming. A unique room code is generated — share this code with the viewer device.

Connect the viewer

On another device, open the tool, enter the room code, and click "Connect". You will see the live camera feed via encrypted P2P connection.

Monitor and review

Watch live video, use two-way audio to talk back, take screenshots, and review the motion event log. Recorded segments auto-download to the camera device.

How does browser-based video surveillance work?

One device acts as a camera (streams its webcam), another connects as a viewer using a room code. Video is transmitted directly between the two devices over a WebRTC peer-to-peer connection.

Can I analyze an already-recorded video?

Yes. Switch to analyze mode and upload an MP4, WebM or MOV — the AI scans it and builds a timeline of people, pets and vehicles with timestamps, which you can export to CSV or JSON. Processing runs in your browser.

What exactly does the AI recognise?

People, pets (cats, dogs) and vehicles (cars, motorcycles, trucks). Recognition runs in your browser via WebAssembly; the tool does NOT identify who a person is — it recognises categories, not identity.

Can I use my phone as a security camera?

Yes. Open the tool on your phone, tap "Set up Camera", and share the room code with your computer or another phone to view the feed.

How does motion detection work?

The camera compares video frames every 500ms. When enough pixels change (configurable sensitivity), it triggers an alert. You can receive email notifications and see events in the motion log.

Does the screen need to stay on?

The tool uses Wake Lock API to keep the screen on. If your browser does not support it, you may need to adjust your device sleep settings.
