Evacuation Plan Maker: Fire Escape Map for Your Floor

An online tool for making a fire evacuation plan for a small business — a café, office, store or warehouse. You draw the floor in meters or trace a photo of the floor plan, escape routes lay themselves to the nearest exits, and the escape plan is laid out after ISO 23601 with a legend, safety notices and a "You are here" point turned to match the wall it hangs on.

How to make an evacuation plan

4 steps
1
Draw the premises

Walls in meters, rooms by size or a traced floor plan photo; doors, windows, exits, stairs.

2
Add signs and spots

Extinguishers, hose reels, call points, first aid, the breaker panel and the spots where sheets will hang.

3
Check routes and sheet

Routes lay themselves; the check lists the clauses that are not yet met.

4
Download and print

A PDF for a print shop or film, or tiles for a home printer — a separate sheet for each mounting point.

Draw your premises and get a sheet ready for the wall

Walls are drawn in meters: "Wall" — click at every corner, or type the length. A simple room — straight away as a rectangle by its size:

This is a custom, not a requirement of ISO 23601. Leave it empty if you do not need it.

What is on the floor

Tick what you have: if something ticked is missing from the plan, the check reminds you.

Where and how to mount
  • At the entrance to the floor, by stairs and elevators, at corridor junctions and waiting areas. A room plan goes by the room exit.
  • The spot must be well lit, and no furniture or racks may cover the plan.
  • Mounting height is usually eye level: the middle of the sheet about 1.5–1.7 m (5–5.5 ft) above the floor.
  • The plan is turned to fit its spot: each mounting point gets its own sheet where what is ahead of the reader is at the top. Do not hang one sheet everywhere.
  • After a refit, moved racks or a changed evacuation procedure, redo the plan.

Plan check

The check compares the plan with the clauses of the standard that can be seen on the drawing. The spot, lighting, an up-to-date layout and unlocked exits are yours to check; the person in charge of the premises is responsible for the plan.
