Why root-finding is hard in Indonesian

Indonesian prefixes change the first sound of the root: "me-" + "pukul" becomes "memukul", "me-" + "sapu" becomes "menyapu", "me-" + "karang" becomes "mengarang". A simple letter-stripping tool cannot undo that. This analyzer follows the Nazief–Adriani confix-stripping method and checks every candidate against a real root dictionary, so it restores the deleted p/t/k/s and returns the true base word — or tells you honestly when a word is not in the dictionary.

Frequently asked questions

What is a kata dasar?

The kata dasar is the base or root word before any affixes are added — for example the root of "pembelajaran" is "ajar", and of "menyapu" is "sapu".

What algorithm does it use?

It uses the Nazief–Adriani confix-stripping algorithm (the basis of the Sastrawi stemmer), with an added dictionary check and a hand-built table for irregular words.

Why is the root sometimes marked "not found"?

The analyzer only returns a base word that exists in its dictionary. If a rare or misspelled word is not there, it says so instead of guessing a wrong root.

Can a word have more than one analysis?

Yes. A few Indonesian words are genuinely ambiguous (mengaku → aku or kaku). The tool shows the most common analysis.

Does it work offline?

Yes — the analyzer and its dictionary run entirely in your browser, so it works without a connection once the page has loaded.
