Projector 3D Test Patterns

Good 3D depends on one thing: keeping the left and right images strictly apart so each eye sees only what it should. When that separation leaks, you get ghosting — a faint double image — and the depth illusion falls apart. These five patterns let you verify the whole chain on a projector. Anaglyph offset boxes confirm red-cyan glasses are working, the left/right field shows whether each eye is fed the correct frame, a depth gradient checks the sense of near and far, the crosstalk pattern hunts for ghost leakage to the wrong eye, and a convergence grid confirms the two images line up. Wear your glasses and each pattern should look exactly as described.

How to use

Match the pattern to your glasses

Red-cyan paper glasses use the anaglyph pattern; active-shutter or polarised glasses use separation, crosstalk and convergence.

Put the glasses on

View each pattern through the glasses, not with the naked eye, so you judge what your eyes actually receive in 3D.

Hunt for ghosting

On the crosstalk pattern, the shape meant for the other eye should be invisible. A faint double means leakage to fix.

Check convergence and depth

The convergence grids should overlap cleanly, and the depth gradient should read as a smooth near-to-far slope.

Prove each eye sees only its own image, with no ghosting

Active-shutter or polarised 3D? Use L/R separation, crosstalk and convergence patterns. Red-cyan anaglyph 3D? Use the anaglyph pattern. Crosstalk = ghost image visible to the wrong eye — should be invisible on a properly calibrated 3D projector.
