Why use this voice gender changer

Most "male to female voice" tricks either sound like a chipmunk (pitch only) or replace your voice with a robotic text-to-speech narrator, losing your delivery. This tool does neither: a phase vocoder shifts pitch and vocal-tract formants independently, so the voice reads as the other gender while your own intonation, timing and emotion stay intact. Does it keep my way of speaking?

Yes. It shifts only your timbre — the pitch and the vocal-tract formants. Your intonation, rhythm, pauses and emphasis stay intact, because the tool transforms your actual recording instead of re-generating speech from text.

How realistic is the male-to-female (or female-to-male) result?

It uses a real phase vocoder with independent pitch and formant shifting, so the gender change is convincing for most voices and avoids the "chipmunk" artifact of simple pitch shifters. Very expressive passages, shouting, or heavy background noise can still reveal processing. Record close to the mic in a quiet room for the cleanest result.

How is this different from a regular voice changer?

A general voice changer is built for fun effects — robot, monster, helium. This tool is focused on one job: shifting perceived gender naturally while keeping your delivery, with a single Masculine↔Feminine control instead of dozens of effect presets.

Can I make myself sound like one specific person?

No. This changes the gender character of a voice, not its identity — it will not turn your voice into a named individual's. Converting to a specific target voice is a different technology.

Do I need to install anything?

No. Everything runs in your browser with the Web Audio API and AudioWorklet — record or upload, adjust, and download. It works offline after the first load.
