Frequently asked questions

Where do the rates come from?

Live fiat rates combine European Central Bank reference rates for major currencies with interbank rates from exchangerate-api.com for full coverage. The Russian ruble also shows the official Central Bank of Russia rate, and historical series for non-ECB currencies use currency-api. Crypto rates come from CoinGecko. All responses are cached server-side for 10 minutes so the tool stays fast and does not hammer free public APIs.

What is a mid-market rate and why does it matter?

The mid-market rate is the midpoint between the buying and selling price of a currency on the global interbank market. Banks and payment apps rarely give you this rate — they add a hidden margin of 1–5% and sometimes a fixed fee on top. The Bank fees tab exposes the gap so you can pick the cheapest service.

Does the tool support cryptocurrencies?

Yes. Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, USDC, Solana, BNB, XRP, Cardano, Dogecoin and TRON are available alongside fiat currencies. Prices include the 24-hour change so you can see momentum at a glance.

Can I use the converter offline?

Yes. The page is precached by the Tembrica service worker and the latest rates are stored in your browser. When you are offline you'll see a banner showing the timestamp of the cached rate, and conversion keeps working.

Why does the Russian Central Bank rate differ from the live one?

The CBR publishes one official rate per business day, usually fixed around noon Moscow time. The live market moves continuously, so a 0.3–1.5% gap between the two is normal. We show both values and the delta when you pick a ruble pair.

Are there any limits or sign-ups?

No sign-up, no email, no paywall. Conversions and alerts are unlimited. Alerts are stored in your browser's localStorage. The tool is a hobby project, not an affiliate for money transfer services.
