That is moiré. A screen is made of tiny red, green and blue dots, and the phone camera samples them with its own pixel grid. The two grids overlap and produce a false pattern — colored swirls and waves that are not on the screen itself. The tool removes them in the photo before straightening, while the pattern is still undistorted.

Keep the whole screen with its bezel in the frame, do not get too close, and if a lamp or a window reflects in the screen, shoot slightly from the side instead of head-on. Turn off the flash. If glare still lands on the screen, take 1–2 more shots from another spot and upload them together.

The tool shows the frame and says it is not sure. Tap the screen in the photo — the search runs again around that point — or drag the four corners onto the screen edges by hand: a magnifier appears next to your finger. If the screen fills the whole frame and its edges are not visible, press Use the whole photo.

The screen ratio is computed from the perspective — from how its sides converge in the photo — and from the focal length stored in the photo. The value is snapped to a standard one: 16:9, 16:10, 4:3, 21:9 or a phone screen shape. If you need another shape, pick it by hand.

Under blown-out glare there is simply no picture in the photo, and no filter can bring it back. That is why the tool merges several shots of one screen: the glare moves with your shooting spot, and each part of the screen is taken from the shot where it is not blown out. A shot that shows another screen is left out, and the tool names it.

You get a picture close to a screenshot: straight, without the bezel, moiré and haze. But fine detail the camera did not capture will not appear — if text is blurred in the photo, it stays blurred. For sharp text, move closer so the screen fills most of the frame, and hold the phone still.
