Online tool for removing metadata from photos: EXIF, IPTC, XMP, GPS coordinates, camera serial numbers and author captions. It handles JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, AVIF, GIF and TIFF, processes files in bulk and returns them as a single ZIP. It first shows exactly what it found in each photo, and after cleaning it re-reads the result and confirms there is nothing left to strip. Pixels are never re-encoded — only the housekeeping bytes change, so image quality stays exactly as it was.

Why this tool

Most removers work from a list of known places: delete EXIF, delete XMP, delete IPTC. Anything not on the list stays in the file — signed C2PA manifests, the Motion Photo video appended after the frame, extra MPF images, vendor blocks. Here the rule is inverted: only what is needed to display the picture correctly stays — the pixels themselves, the colour profile and the rotation tag. Everything else is cut, including metadata formats that do not exist yet. After cleaning, the result is read back and the tool shows what was removed and that nothing remains.

Frequently asked questions

Will the photo lose quality?

No. The tool never decodes or re-compresses the image: it cuts out the housekeeping bytes and copies the compressed pixel data one-to-one. This is verified by comparing the decoded pixels byte for byte before and after cleaning — they match exactly.

Why do photos sometimes end up sideways after EXIF is removed?

Because rotation is stored in EXIF too: the phone shoots in portrait but writes a landscape frame plus an orientation tag. Removers that delete EXIF wholesale take that tag with it. Here a single orientation tag is kept by default — a number from 1 to 8, which identifies nobody.

What is a hidden payload in a photo?

Some phones append extra data after the end of the image. On Samsung and Google devices this is a Motion Photo — a complete video file with the sound of whatever was happening a couple of seconds around the shot. The MPF format adds extra full-size images. Technically none of it is metadata, which is why most removers never notice it.

What is C2PA and why remove it?

C2PA (Content Credentials) is a signed provenance record: what created the file, what edited it, sometimes with account details. AI services and editors attach it. It lives in its own segment rather than in EXIF, so ordinary cleaning leaves it alone. Whether to remove it is your call — the Custom mode lets you switch that item off.

Is iPhone HEIC supported?

Yes. HEIC and AVIF are ISO-BMFF containers: the metadata records sit in one place and the data itself sits next to the pixels. The tool removes the records and erases the data without shifting a single image byte, so the file size does not change and the picture stays exactly as it was.

How is this different from a metadata editor?

An editor is what you want when you need to inspect and adjust individual tags in one file. This tool solves a different problem: take a pile of photos, show the risks, clean them all by one rule and hand back a ZIP with a report. For per-field edits there is a separate image metadata editor.

Why does the filename matter too?

A name like IMG_20240612_143022.jpg announces the date and the minute even when not a single tag is left inside the file. That is why renaming is offered: files get neutral sequential names.

How many files can I process at once?

Up to 500 files per run; the daily allowance is shown on the page and depends on your account. Re-processing the same files on the same day does not count against it.
