Movie vocabulary from its subtitles

This tool reads a subtitle file and works out the number that matters: what share of the running words you already know at your vocabulary size. It then collects the unknown ones — ranked by frequency, with transcription, CEFR level and the line they came from — and shows how many you would have to learn to cross the comprehension threshold. The list exports to Anki or CSV.

How to pull vocabulary out of subtitles

1
Drop in the subtitles

Drag an .srt, .vtt or .ass file — a whole season at once if you like, or just paste the text.

2
Set your vocabulary size

Pick how many words you know and the comprehension figure and the plan appear above.

3
Learn and export

Tick off the words you already know and send the rest to Anki or CSV.
