NAT Type and Packet Loss Test for PS5 and Xbox

An online tool for checking your NAT type and line quality before you play online. It looks at how your router assigns ports and whether it lets incoming connections through, measures packet loss, jitter and latency, translates the result into PlayStation 5 and Xbox NAT types, and suggests what to enable on your router.

How to check your NAT type

3 steps
1
Join the console’s network

Open this page on a phone connected to the same Wi-Fi as your PS5 or Xbox, and place the phone next to the console.

2
Press “Test network”

About 10 seconds go to the NAT check, then loss and latency are measured for 30 seconds.

3
Do what it suggests

Enable UPnP, forward ports or send the report to your ISP — then test again.

Find out whether your router lets you play online and whether your connection drops packets

Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi as the console and place it next to it — that way the test sees the same network.

PlayStation 5

—

Press “Test network” — the type will appear here.

Xbox

—

Press “Test network” — the type will appear here.

This is how the router treats this device. A console can request a port via UPnP and may get a better type — hence two options.

Loss and latency are measured after the NAT check — 30 seconds or 2 minutes.

    What does your console show?

Check the NAT type on the console itself and pick it here — we’ll compare it with the router test.

PS5: Settings → Network → Connection Status → Test Internet Connection.
Xbox: Settings → General → Network settings → Test NAT type.

    Is your IP public?

Open your router settings — the address is on the sticker underneath, often 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 — and find the WAN address or “Internet IP address” on the status page. Paste it here.

    Ports for your router

Only needed if there’s no UPnP or it didn’t help. The console’s address is in its network settings.

GTA VI ports haven’t been announced yet. Don’t leave the console in the DMZ permanently — that exposes it completely.

    Report for your ISP

Ready-made text with your measurements — to ask for a public IP or a line repair.

The text appears after the network test.
    Compare results

Label a result — “Wi-Fi by the console”, “cable”, “after UPnP” — and compare. Stored in this browser.
