Traffic speed from the sound of a passing car
An online speed meter that works from sound instead of radar. As a vehicle approaches and passes, the pitch of its engine falls; the tool follows that engine note through the whole pass and fits it to the exact Doppler curve of a straight, constant-speed pass, which yields both the speed and the distance to the lane.
How to measure
A few meters back from the curb, still, and out of the wind. An open window indoors is better than an exposed pavement.
Each vehicle is detected by its loudness rising above the background and falling back again. The reading appears a second or two after it has gone.
Thirty or so before the 85th percentile means anything. The tool says how far along you are.

How this is measured
The phone listens to the street and measures every vehicle that passes. Leave it running for as long as you like.
Face the phone at the road, a few meters back from the curb, and keep it still. Wind across the microphone is the one thing that ruins a reading — indoors behind an open window works well.
Sound travels faster in warm air, and every reading is proportional to that speed. At the temperature above it is
